2015 in Film
2015.
That year broke several Box Office Records. The Film Industry is booming as it should be. We saw our beloved franchises come back to life in the form of Star Wars The Force Awakens, Mad Max Fury Road and Jurassic World. We saw two Marvel Studios movies. We saw an influx in Spy movies. Literally. Spy, Bridge of Spies, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, SPECTRE, and a few other not-so-good ones.
As of the start of this year comic book movies are quite possibly the most popular film franchises of today's generation. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has collectively made over $10,156,849,641. $1,924,000,000 in 2015 alone. On 2 of the 13 films. We expect to see how the future years compare, seeing as 2016's Captain America Civil War has already made $1 billion.
Mad Max Fury Road as I mentioned earlier, returned to our lives in chaotic fashion. It took many people by surprise as the action genre can be viewed by critics and the audience alike as inferior to the drama. This was not the case for Mad Max Fury Road as it met with universal acclaim and took home 6 oscars. People love when you paint a canvas in film with gritty, real action and use the CGI brush sparingly to bring your art together. The film industry will learn from this piece of art.
And finally Star Wars The Force Awakens saw the return of beloved characters such as Han, Luke, Leia and Chewbacca. Be greeted with newcomers Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo Ren. This film is currently the third highest grossing film of all time. Making over $2 billion at the box office alone. I don't even want to know how much they made on other sales. Let's just face it. We all felt something watching that film for the first 6 times, and Star Wars is not going anywhere anytime soon. Disney will make sure of that. And we love them for it.
A little late. But here's to 2016 in film.
