2015 in Film

2015. That year broke several Box Office Records. The Film Industry is booming as it should be. We saw our beloved franchises come back to life in the form of Star Wars The Force Awakens, Mad Max Fury Road and Jurassic World. We saw two Marvel Studios movies. We saw an influx in Spy movies. Literally. Spy, Bridge of Spies, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, SPECTRE, and a few other not-so-good ones. As of the start of this year comic book movies are quite possibly the most popular film franchises of today's generation. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has collectively made over $10,156,849,641. $1,924,000,000 in 2015 alone. On 2 of the 13 films. We expect to see how the future years compare, seeing as 2016's Captain America Civil War has already made $1 billion. Mad Max Fury Road as I mentioned earlier, returned to our lives in chaotic fashion. It took many people by surprise as the action genre can be viewed by critics and the audience alike as inferior to the drama. This was not the case for Mad Max Fury Road as it met with universal acclaim and took home 6 oscars. People love when you paint a canvas in film with gritty, real action and use the CGI brush sparingly to bring your art together. The film industry will learn from this piece of art. And finally Star Wars The Force Awakens saw the return of beloved characters such as Han, Luke, Leia and Chewbacca. Be greeted with newcomers Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo Ren. This film is currently the third highest grossing film of all time. Making over $2 billion at the box office alone. I don't even want to know how much they made on other sales. Let's just face it. We all felt something watching that film for the first 6 times, and Star Wars is not going anywhere anytime soon. Disney will make sure of that. And we love them for it. A little late. But here's to 2016 in film.

Ex Machina: Review

This fell just out of my 10. 2014 and 2015 were fantastic years for films just slipping under the box office radar. Ex Machina stars the wonderful Alicia Vikander of whom we're likely to see plenty more of considering her recent oscar win for The Danish Girl. The film also stars an Oscar with the second name Isaac, and the popular Domhnall Gleeson. It is written by a very talented screenwriter by the name of Alex Garland, and this is his debut in directing too. I like most people had no problems with this film, I found it gripping, intriguing and gorgeous throughout. I thought the technical properties of the film are standout alone, but the performances do the film extreme amounts of justice too. The reason it wasn't in my 10 favourites is purely because there isn't enough space, I had no problem with this film however the majority of those 10 I picked changed my emotions so drastically and this simply isn't designed to be hard-hitting or nostalgic or bursting with said emotion. Nevertheless it'll be remembered for some time.

The End of the Tour: Review

The End of the Tour, starring Jesse Eisenberg & Jason Segel, written by Donald Margulies & directed by James Ponsoldt, is what I believe to be one of the most underrated films of 2015. It's philosophical and sophisticated dialogue along with the beautiful chemistry of the actors with the performances they give make it just an enormous film for me. I had not heard much of the great writer David Foster Wallace, but I think even he would be proud of the legacy and impact he left and on many people's lives at that. The End of the Tour. You get one Ron Award.
If anyone should wonder, these are my picks for the best films of 2015. These are the ones that made me a child again, or made me weep in sadness or excitement. They altered my brain and ultimately that is what films are designed to do; change us.

In 2030, the world is changing rapidly. We are able to not only improve ourselves physically to the point of defining perfection, but also improve our lives by realising our destiny. The average consumer will be able to determine when they will die, and with an added cost, how. The rich and the famed will be able to find their true soul-mate. But is this science... right? How is this miracle work done?
I have been writing several stories which are sometimes translated to screenplay, for about 3 years now. I have a deep love of film and television and want them to remain a prominent form of media for another 300 years. I won't live that long so I guess I have to do my best this century. I would like to share a vision I have with some people who are willing to delve into another person's head. Here is Omniscient. A screenplay I started writing at the beginning of this year.
